This could be the picture that secured enough funding for AGI research such that we avoid a dystopian universe of infinite simulated suffering

Joey ButtaFoucault ☭ (@JButtafoucault): @ezraklein Three cheers for woke capitalism!

Except this time the wokism is actually reducing a huge amount of suffering.

Alexey Guzey (@alexeyguzey): given that depression is defined by the absence of motivation, anhedonia, loss of meaning, etc. why do so many people with depression seek psychological help, take antidepressants, etc?

There’s a big gap between “losing enough motivation that your life becomes much worse” and “losing so much motivation that you literally can’t drag yourself to a doctor’s appointment.”

Claire Lehmann (@clairlemon): Benzodiazepine withdrawal syndrome is so serious I'm perplexed as to why anyone is ever prescribed this medication in the first place https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benzodiazepine_withdrawal_syndrome

Throw SSRIs in there too https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antidepressant_discontinuation_syndrome.

Why? She is almost certainly more savvy at using and willing to use the regulatory state/executive branch to go around congress. Even if you think her platform is worse than sanders’, this is really important.

Robin Hanson (@robinhanson): .@RobynElyse: "Robin Hanson … suggested that a woman who 'cuckolds' a man should be punished more severely than a rapist who drugs & then rapes a woman while she is unconscious" NO, if cuckold makes kid, I ASKED why we don't punish those cases similarly https://www.wonkette.com/economist-suggests-infecting-a-ton-of-people-with-coronavirus-to-help-people-with-coronavirus

Meta point: it’s crazy that so few tenured professors say things that are even 10% as controversial as any of these tweets. So few people have such a privilege - make use of it!

Data would be 2 numbers on an infographic. This has 4 so I think it qualifies as Big Data.

Eliezer Yudkowsky ⏹️ (@ESYudkowsky): My first reaction to this snarky statement is that it's also just true. But I comprehend some things poorly. Does anyone know, say, a professional mathematician, who is a low decoupler?

(quoting @gmiller: For 'high decoupler', also read 'capable of abstract thought'.)

“Low decoupler” could mean either “propensity not to decouple but capable of decoupling” or “incapable of decoupling.” Seems that a mathematician could be of the first type but not the second.

Ryan Harrington (@ryharrin): @AaronBergman18 @ezraklein Well, there's the possibility that Biden could be there nominee. That would drive Trump's percentage up.

True, forgot to mention that Biden polls well against him too. Point is that prediction markets don’t match probability-weighted avg polls of democratic contenders vs Trump.
